Forget the family reunion; now extended family can enjoy a bespoke safari experience in some of the most remote and pristine nature reserves in Africa

Safaris have received an upgrade with five-star-rated mobile safari outfitter Haywards Safaris’ new offering: A Family Legacy safari. Able to accommodate groups of between 30 and 40 family members, the Family Legacy Safari is a personalised mobile safari that is customised to include all members – including kids, teens, parents, aunts, uncles and grandparents.

Haywards’ owner, Peter Hayward, who has been providing luxury safaris into Africa for nearly 25 years, says: ‘Exclusive privacy in pristine nature is Haywards’ forte. Every member in camp is profiled and catered to, from their choice of select chefs’ menus, wines and whiskeys to the finest touch of luxury while they relax – or adventure – in [sic] beauty’.

The company offers guests the opportunity to include their own family traditions into the experience or start a new set of traditions such as sharing personal messages of love and care around an evening fire while being captured on film to relive later.

The safaris are offered in the Kruger National Park, iSimangaliso, Waterberg, the Cradle of Humankind, Dinokeng, Botswana, Namibia and East Africa. Haywards’ recommends a visit between April and June at Isimangaliso, which has a sub-tropical climate and experiences that comprise five ecosystems, including riverine and lake systems, sea, dune forest and bush.
